New Update: Amit Shah Bharatpol portal to Combat Transnational Crimes:

Amit Shah: On Tuesday, January 7, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the #Bharatpol portal, a new platform designed to enhance international collaboration among law enforcement agencies. Developed by the #Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Bharatpol serves as a communication hub for real-time coordination and assistance in tackling cross-border crimes through cooperation with international police networks. The portal aims to simplify the process of connecting central and state agencies with Interpol, ultimately expediting the resolution of investigations.

The Bharatpol portal is expected to facilitate more efficient sharing of information, resources, and updates across jurisdictions, benefiting law enforcement agencies in both national and international crime-fighting efforts. By providing a streamlined interface for connecting with global partners, the platform will strengthen India’s involvement in international policing and enhance the speed and effectiveness of transnational crime investigations.

What is Bharatpol and why has the CBI developed it?

  • CBI’s Role as NCB (National Central Bureau) for Interpol:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) functions as India’s National Central Bureau (NCB) for Interpol, connecting Indian law enforcement agencies with counterparts in 195 countries worldwide.
  • Challenges with Current System:
Presently, law enforcement agencies across India—both central and state—coordinate with the CBI and Interpol liaison officers through traditional methods like letters, emails, and faxes. This process often results in delays, hindering the efficiency of investigations.
  • Introduction of Bharatpol:
#Bharatpol aims to make international police cooperation smoother and faster by providing a centralized platform for seamless communication between Indian agencies and Interpol.
  • Reasons for Developing Bharatpol:
The decision to create Bharatpol was driven by the growing threat of transnational crimes, such as:
    • Cybercrime
    • Financial frauds
    • Online radicalization
    • Organized crime
    • Drug and human trafficking

At the launch event at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need for Indian agencies to adopt advanced technology and methods to apprehend fugitives. He stated, “We must stay alert to global challenges and enhance our internal systems. Bharatpol is a step forward in this direction.” He added that the new portal would enable both central and state agencies to easily share and access case-related information from all 195 Interpol member countries.

The #Bharatpol portal has five key modules: Connect, INTERPOL Notices, References, Broadcast, and Resources.

Home Minister #Amit Shah explained that through the Connect module, Indian law enforcement agencies will operate as an extension of Interpol’s NCB-New Delhi. This system will ensure fast, secure, and organized transmission of requests for Interpol Notices, allowing for the quick identification of criminals both within India and internationally.
